Modulating the nanostructures via carbazole-pyrene-based non-volatile solid additives for efficient transport channel of optoelectronics

In this study, we modulate the active layer nanostructure of optoelectronic devices via a novel small molecule solid additive to improve device performance. The introduction of solid additives induces kinetics-independent yet efficient charge transport and facilitates morphology modulation. Therefore, we synthesized and introduced a novel small molecule (9-(heptadecane-9-yl)-3,6-bis(5-(pyrene-1-yl)thiophen-2-yl)-9H-carbazole (Cb-Th-Py)) by combining carbazole derivatives and pyrene in an A-D-A structure, and PM6:Y6 composed of Cb-Th-Py induced uniform morphology. Furthermore, the energy level tuning induces a higher electron injection barrier in reverse bias, which contributes to the reduction of the dark current. In particular, Cb-Th-Py shows high miscibility with Y6, which enhances π-π stacking to obtain a charge transport pathway, reduces the trap density, and significantly suppresses noise. The Cb-Th-Py-based optoelectronics exhibit improved efficiency and high reproducibility.
