Effect on Thermal conductivity of Liquid Crystal Epoxy Resin by Orientation Level

Thermal conductivity of polymer materials has been received scientific attention to heat dissipation of electric device. However, the thermal conductivity of polymer has limitation due to the amorphous orientation. In this study, we prepared biphenyl derivative liquid crystal epoxy resins (LCERs) to overcome of thermal conductivity of polymers. LCERs exhibits high thermal conductivity based on the self-assembly properties of mesogen. The various length of alkyl chains was introduced in the LC monomers structure. The LCERs was polymerized by anionic ring-opening polymerization. The phase transition behavior investigated by polarized optical microscopy and differential scanning calorimeter. The microstructures were investigated by X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD). Thermal properties were investigated TGA, DMA and thermal conductivity measurement. The prepared LCERs exhibited high thermal conductivity than conventional epoxy resin. Temperature change of LCERs was observed by using thermal imaging camera.
