Shape memory polyurethanes (SMPUs) are block copolymers consisting of soft and hard segments, which can change their shape above the transition temperature. Polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS) is a type of nanomaterial with an inorganic silica-like core and functional organic groups that can improve mechanical and thermal properties. In this study, POSS-DGEBA was synthesized through a ring-opening reaction between the epoxide group of bisphenol A diglycidyl ether (DGEBA) and the one amino group of amino-isobutyl POSS. The PU prepolymer was prepared using poly (ethylene glycol) or poly (tetramethylene ether) glycol with different chain lengths but the same molecular weight and diisocyanate. The hybrid polyurethane (HPU) was synthesized with PU-prepolymer, various contents of POSS-DGEBA, and 1,4-butanediol (BDO). The mechanical properties and shape memory characteristics of HPU was analyzed by UTM and DMA. This was supported by Korea National University of Transportation in 2024.
