Improved Foam Stability on Vertical Surfaces Using Lignin-based Biodegradable Materials for the Removal of Toxic Agents

Various decontamination agents have been recently designed to remove toxic substances such as chemical warfare agents. However, existing decontamination agents often pose a high risk of environmental pollution. In addition, the fact that most decontamination agents are in liquid form presents a significant limitation on the vertical surfaces as they tend to flow downwards, which greatly diminishes their effectiveness in decontaminating these areas. In this study, we developed an eco-friendly decontamination agent foam that can adhere to vertical surfaces, thereby overcoming the limitations of previous liquid agents. Our decontamination foam demonstrated an ability to remain fixed to vertical surfaces for a prolonged period. This stability ensures a more effective decontamination process compared to traditional liquid decontamination agents, ensuring thorough and prolonged contact with the toxic agents. Our work enhances decontamination efficiency while reducing environmental impact, creating safer and more sustainable solutions.
