Advanced technologies associated with rechargeable battery systems have revolutionized virtually every facet of modern world life for nearly four decades. To meet the ever-growing demands to develop next-generation batteries beyond lithium-ion batteries, tremendous progress has been made in realizing high-energy-density battery systems. However, relatively little attention has been paid to polymer materials, including separators, polymer electrolytes, and binders, which play critical roles in realizing high-performance battery systems. In this talk, the macromolecular design rules and structure-property relationships of advanced polymer materials for the next-generation batteries will be demonstrated through in-situ and post-mortem analyses. This talk provides new insights into the rational design of various polymer materials for battery applications.
