Thermal Decomposition of PAG oil: Characterization and lifetime prediction

Polyalkylene glycol (PAG) oils are widely utilized in the automotive and manufacturing industries due to their low toxicity, low sludge formation tendency, and excellent thermal stability. To optimize their use, it is crucial to predict the thermal performance and lifespan of PAG oils under various conditions. This study aims to achieve this through a series of experiments and analyses. We subjected PAG oils to thermal degradation at different temperatures. Various analytical techniques, including spectroscopy, chromatography were used to analyze the thermally degraded oil samples. These techniques provided a comprehensive assessment of the chemical and physical changes in the oils. Using the data from these analyses, we develop predictive model for estimating the lifespan of PAG oil under different thermal conditions, thus providing insights into its reliability in practical applications.
