Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are porous materials characterized by a large specific surface area, high porosity, and many functional groups. However, since they are synthesized in a crystalline powder form, their low processability limits their practical applications and make them difficult to recover, leading to secondary pollution. In this study, we synthesized ZIF-8, a type of MOF, on the surface of silk aerogels with cellular pores using an in situ method to overcome these limitations. Silk fibroin, with its abundant polar groups, facilitates strong bonding with ZIF-8, enhancing the nucleation, growth, and adhesion of MOF nanoparticles. The ZIF-8/silk aerogels were characterized using SEM for structure, XRD and FT-IR for ZIF-8 synthesis verification, and TGA for thermal properties. XPS analyzed the bonding mechanism between ZIF-8 and silk, and BET analysis measured the specific surface area and pore size distribution. Adsorption studies showed that the ZIF-8/silk aerogels effectively adsorbed dyes.
