Poly High Internal Phase Emulsions, or PolyHIPEs, are macroporous polymers prepared via emulsion templating. PolyHIPEs are usually characterized by high porosity, interconnectivity and low density, which make them applicable in tissue engineering, filtration systems and catalyst supports. Among these, their high surface area, customizable pore structures, and improved mechanical properties make them ideal for preparing high-performance filtration systems which offer enhanced filtration efficiency and durability. In this study, we investigate the methods for controlling the interconnectivity of macroporous structures of PolyHIPE films, which directly impacts their filtration efficiency, permeability, and mechanical stability. Additionally, we discuss the principles in controlling the pore structure based on the results from SEM images of PolyHIPEs and rheological properties of HIPE templates.
