PI Synthesis with Strong Rigid Backbone Using Diamine with Benzoxazole Unit

Among the many polymer materials available, the need for highly heat-resistant polymers such as aromatic polyimide (PI) is increasing in a wide range of industries such as semiconductor devices and automobiles due to the development of advanced technology. Since the heat resistance of polymers is highly related to the backbone of the polymer chain, a new monomer containing benzoxazole units was synthesized and used as the main chain. By doing so, it has the advantages of high heat resistance of benzoxazole and mechanical strength of polyimide. In this study, several copolymers were synthesized by fixing with one dianhydride and adjusting the ratio of TFMB and newly synthesized diamine containing benzoxazole units. The structure of the synthesized diamine was characterized through NMR and the structure of PI film was analyzed through NMR and FT-IR. Thermal and mechanical properties of PI films were analyzed through TGA and UTM.
