High Efficiency with Epoxy-group-containing Gel Polymer Electrolyte via In-situ Polymerization using Lithium bis(fluorosulfonyl) imide (LiFSI)

Li-ion batteries are the most widely used secondary batteries in industries, and liquid electrolyte(LE) is mainly used. LE has the advantages of low interfacial resistance, high energy density, and low-temperature stability, but has the risk of explosion at high temperatures, so gel polymer electrolyte(GPE) and Solid electrolyte(SE) are being proposed. However, SE requires high temperature and pressure for electrode adhesion during cell production, and have the disadvantage of high interfacial resistance. GPE is being studied to solve these problems. In this study, a cell was produced by mixing an epoxy group containing monomer with an Li-salt, LiFSI, and then using an In-situ polymerization method. This method was chosen to reduce the interfacial resistance. The structural characteristics of the synthesized monomer were studied by IR and NMR, and the thermal properties were analyzed by TGA and DSC, and the electrochemical properties were analyzed by EIS, LSV, CV, and Charge-Discharge.
