Recently, as the demand for lithium secondary batteries increases, issues regarding stability are emerging. To replace widely used liquid electrolytes, polymer electrolytes with relatively low ionic conductivity but excellent stability are being developed.

In this study, when comparing polyether sulfide (PES) with commonly used electrolytes such as polyethylene oxide (PEO), the larger atomic size of PES results in weaker interactions, which improves lithium cation transport and results in higher ionic conductivity.

Additionally, in situ polymerization of electrolytes offers significant benefits by improving material integration, interface stability, and uniformity within the battery. This method simplifies manufacturing and reduces costs. Furthermore, it is expected to overcome existing problems by improving both ionic conductivity and thermal stability, making it suitable as an electrolyte for next-generation batteries.
