The global development of bioplastics aims to promote sustainability. However, there is a lack of studies balancing biodegradability with mechanical properties. In this study, we developed cellulose-based dual-network bioplastics with controlled mechanical properties and biodegradability. By employing ring-opening polymerizations and dynamic covalent chemistries, we achieved precise control over the tensile strength and elongation of bioplastics from 8.8 to 193 MPa and 3.3 to 32.5%, respectively. These bioplastics also showed rapid biodegradation, with around 60% decomposition within two weeks. Additionally, our bioplastics can be cultivated with plants, indicating eco-friendly degradation. This study presents a promising method for developing advanced bioplastics that meet sustainability goals and offer customizable performance. Furthermore, the dual-network approach offers a versatile platform for tuning various properties to suit different applications.
