Engineering Strategies to Enhance the Performances of Multi-functional Polymer Composites

In this seminar, several engineering strategies for enhancing the performances of multi-functional polymer composites are demonstrated. The composites presented in the seminar are developed both in industry and academia, and the seminar is divided into two parts; each part pertains to the composites developed in industry and academia, respectively. In industry, the market trends and technical issues associated with long fiber reinforced thermoplastics (LFT) is discussed. On the other hand, in academia several strategies have been employed to improve the performances of the composites. These strategies include i) synthesis of next-generation nano-material to be used as fillers including graphene nano-ribbon and non-oxidative graphene flakes, ii) advancing fabrication or integration processes by utilizing three-dimensional network structures and iii) control over composite properties by introducing microcellular structures with the aid of supercritical fluids.
