Exciplex host systems in organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) have demonstrated superior carrier injection, transport properties, and charge balance, leading to reduced turn-on voltage, and extended device operational lifetimes. However, most research on exciplex hosts has been limited to vacuum-deposited OLEDs, which involve complex mixing of a donor and an acceptor, with an emitter. Also, these hosts in solution-processed OLEDs result in phase separation and poor film-forming properties. Therefore, developing exciplex hosts suitable for solution processing is essential. In this study, we synthesized a "two-in-one molecular host" by combining a donor moiety and an acceptor moiety via a cyclohexane linker. This approach effectively converts the emissive layer from a ternary system to a binary system. Additionally, this host improves phase separation, solubility, and surface morphology. We applied this “two-in-one molecule” to solution-processed OLEDs and analyzed its performance.
