Tannic Acid-assisted Aramid Nanofiber/Graphene Nanoplatelet Composite Aerogel Films with Excellent EMI Shielding, Heat Management, and Flame Retardancy Performance

To achieve high EMI shielding, thermal insulation, and flame resistance, composite aerogel films based on aramid nanofibers (ANFs) and graphene nanoplatelets (GNPs) were fabricated through simple electrostatic self-assembly, freeze-drying, and compression. ANFs were used as templates for the composite aerogel films due to their excellent dispersibility, and large specific surface area. GNPs were selected as multifunctional fillers for the composite materials because of their exceptional chemical, mechanical, and electrical properties. To improve the dispersibility and interfacial adhesion of GNPs within the ANF templates, GNPs were treated with tannic acid and (3-aminopropyl)triethoxysilane. The microstructural features of the composite aerogel films were characterized using SEM, EDS, and XRD. EMI shielding performance was assessed using electrometry and network analysis across a wide frequency range of 1-18 GHz. The Joule heating performance was investigated using a source meter and an IR camera.
