Visible light has emerged as a promising alternative to conventional ultraviolet (UV) light for initiating photopolymerization across a variety of applications, particularly in biomedical and advanced manufacturing (i.e., 3D printing). Visible light offers inherent spatiotemporal control, greater penetration depth, and reduction in photo-toxicity compared to higher energy UV light. The discrete absorption of longer wavelength of light facilitates advanced manufacturing techniques, including multimaterial printing, UV-blocking adhesives, and 4D printing, which are unattainable with conventional methods. In this talk, I will present the utilization of visible light to enable rapid, high-resolution 3D printing and its application in developing multifunctional polymeric materials.
