To develop an encryptable smart window that combines electrochromism and optics, tetrathiafulvalene-based reactive mesogens (TME and TMT) were synthesized. The TM mixture (TMM, TME:TMT=1:1) allows for effective modulation of the absorption wavelength of the TM chromophore via reversible redox reactions. After the macroscopic coating process of self-assembled TMM nanostructures is simply carried out by shear force, thermal and mechanical properties are improved through polymerization. Practical smart windows are simply fabricated based on excellent mechanical properties, and the correlation between anisotropic nanostructure and polarized light is identified. Lastly, information-encryptable and privacy-protectable smart windows are demonstrated.
