내용
Solar water splitting by photoelectrochemical (PEC) cells to produce hydrogen and oxygen offers a promising way to reduce reliance on fossil fuels. However, identifying ideal semiconductors for high-performance and robust PEC cells remains challenging. Organic PEC cells (OPECs) with organic semiconductors (OSs) and co-catalysts have gained great attention due to the tunable optoelectrical properties of OSs and their low-temperature solution processability. Despite this, the conversion efficiency and stability of OPECs, both photocathode and photoanode, have been particularly poor. This presentation introduces high-performance, robust OPECs using a bulk heterojunction (BHJ) blend of semiconducting polymers and discusses key factors determining their performance and operational stability: (i) selecting stable and efficient polymer donors and acceptors, (ii) enhancing interfacial adhesion between layers, and (iii) reducing charge accumulation.
