내용
We present a analysis of the impact of short branches on the various behaviors of entangled short-chain branched (SCB) polyethylene (PE) melt systems under shear flow. This analysis is conducted through direct comparison with their linear analogs. Compared to the linear melts, the SCB systems display more compact chain structures and greater dynamic resistance when subjected to an imposed flow field. These behaviors primarily arise from the increased chain stiffness due to the torsional restrictions of backbone atoms, and the fast random Brownian motion of short branches due to their very short characteristic relaxation time. We examined a variety of structural and rheological properties, including anisotropic chain dimensions and orientations, their detailed distributions, etc. The distinctive characteristics of the entangled SCB systems, as revealed by these individual properties, can be consistently explained by the fundamental structural and dynamical roles of short branches.
