Chiroptical Conjugated Polymer/Chiral Small Molecule Hybrid Films based on Chirality Transfer Phenomenon

Chiral optoelectronics based on circularly polarized light (CP light) has garnered great interest in recent years in various fields, including biosensing, 3D displays, cryptograph, and quantum optics. π-Conjugated molecules (i.e. organic semiconductor) are one of the most promising chiroptical semiconductor materials because their optical rotation properties can be modulated by intentional designing of structural asymmetry. In this presentation, we will suggest a strategy to obtain chiroptically active semiconductor thin films by simply blending of achiral conjugated polymer and versatile small molecules with strong chiroptical activity. We found that controlled phase separation and crystallization of these hybrid films result in the transferred chiroptical activity at the conjugated polymer transitions. A fundamental understanding on the crystalline structure of the hybrid film and effect of intermolecular interactions on the chiroptical properties of the hybrid film will be discussed.
