The recent rapid advancements in the field of bioprinting have led to the creation of complex tissue structures and replacement organs, with the bioink used in these processes being composed of natural polymers that offer improved biocompatibility, stability, and printability. The use of this bioink has the potential to revolutionize tissue engineering and regenerative medicine by enabling the creation of more intricate tissue structures and replacement organs. Moreover, 3D printable bioink highlights the emerging field of 3D bioprinting, which offers precise spatial placement of biologically active particles to better guide tissue generation and formation. Dr. Heo's talk will focus on ongoing bioprinting research projects for soft and hard tissue reconstruction, including possibilities for scale-up functional tissue and organ constructs, as well as the limitations and promising directions for clinical use of bioink. The potential of bioprinting to advance tissue engineering for functional tissue and organ fabrication, transplantation, drug testing, research investigations, and cancer or disease modeling has recently attracted growing interest worldwide among researchers and the general public.
