Self-healing means autonomously recovering original functions from any physical damage. Self-healing thermoplastic polyurethane(TPU) has the common advantages of PU as well as the ability to heal itself without external help. When the TPU has mesogenic groups showing a liquid crystal phase, it becomes a liquid crystalline TPU(LC-TPU). LC-TPU with such self-healing properties can be widely used in the field of electronic materials, films, and displays. In this study, we synthesized the LC-TPU through the combination of diisocyanates and diols with mesogenic groups. The synthesized TPU also has self-healing properties due to hydrogen bonding moieties. To confirm the self-healing properties, a heating test was conducted on damaged TPU and the healing state of TPU was examined through an optical microscope and tensile strength test. In addition, a polarizing microscope and thermal analysis were performed to observe the LC phase of the TPU.
