A series of polycaprolactone (PCL) polyols with molecular weights of 1,100-3,700 g mol-1 and polydispersity indexes of 1.33−1.46 have been synthesized via ring opening polymerization of ε-caprolactone using isosorbide as an initiator. The resulting PCL polyols were employed as soft segments to synthesize thermoplastic poly(ester ester) elastomers (TPEEs). The resultant PCL polyols and TPEEs were characterized by NMR spectroscopy and gel permeation chromatography, and their mechanical properties were investigated by universal testing machine, differential scanning calorimetry, thermalgravimetric analysis, and dynamic mechanical analysis. Accordingly, the PCL-derived TPEEs exhibit superior physical and thermal properties compared to conventional elastomers using poly (tetramethylene ether) glycol. The TPEEs also exhibit excellent biodegradability as determined by ISO-14852 standard test method.
