Multi-Functional Swarm of Magnetic Microrobots through Programming Magnetization anisotropy

Magnetic microrobots have attracted interest as functional materials for untethered system. Research on the microrobots has focused on the delicate locomotion manipulation of individual robots. However, single microrobots have limitations in muti-functionality due to their tiny size and light weight. Herein, we report a programmable assembly of magnetic microrobots by controlling magnetization in the microrobots. By programming magnetization, the magnetic microrobots can build a long-axial assembly. The assembled magnetic microrobots rotate with a lift angle, i.e., pivoting, in rotating magnetic fields. Through the pivoting, the multiple magnetic microrobots can climb obstacles that are more than five times the body length of the single microrobot. Furthermore, we will discuss collaborative behavior of the assembled multiple magnetic microrobots toward medical treatment of atherosclerosis.
