Development of Flame Retardant Polyurethane Foam Based on Polyimide Coating

To address the ongoing demand for improving flamability and mechanical strength of combustible polyurethane foams, polyol was synthesized to prepare polyurethane foams have polymer coatings with excellent thermal stability. The synthesized polyol was used together with a flame-retardant hydroxyl polymer to prepare polyurethane foam, and the flame retardancy and mechanical strength were increased by polyol content. In addition, polyurethane foam achieved excellent thermal stability and compressive strength through polyimide coating and thermal imidization. Surface analysis of the coated polyimide was performed through SEM, and improved flame retardancy was confirmed through LOI and MCC. We believe that polyurethane foam with improved mechanical strength and flame retardancy through polyimide coating will be suitable for application as insulation and flame retardant materials in various fields, and will find additional applications through the addition of various flame retardants.
