Non-isocyanate polyurethanes (NIPU) has been successfully synthesized using linseed oil as a renewable raw material. Accordingly, epoxidized linseed oil (ELSO) derivative was initially prepared using an amberlite IR 120 catalyst (97.2 yield%). ELSO was then reacted with CO2 using tetrabutylammonium bromide as a phase transition catalyst to produce a cyclic carbonate-contained linseed oil (CLSO) derivative (92.5 yield%). Finally, NIPU was obtained by reacting CLSO with various amines such as 1,2-ethylenediamine, 1,4-diaminobutane and PriamineTM 1075. Consequently, the NIPU induced by 1,2-ethanediamine exhibits the highest tensile strength of 54 MPa while one induced by PriamineTM 1075 exhibits the highest elongation of 150%.
