Dual-mode Stretchable Triboelectric Nanogenerator Based on Wrinkled Structures

As one of the energy harvesting, triboelectric nanogenerator (TENG) has been developed due to low fabrication cost and high performance. However, it is known that there is a limit to the practical use of the technology due to the low output current compared to the output voltage. In order to solve the problem, here, we present a dual-mode TENG with hierarchically designed wrinkle patterns composed of poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS) and silver electrode layers. Compared with TENG devices with a single operation mode, our device can be applied to dual operation mode that uses vertical contact-separation mode and contact-sliding mode, exhibiting a high output voltage and current. To gain high power density, a wrinkle pattern was prepared through ultraviolet(UV)/ozone surface treatment. Our dual mode TENG is a promising approach in the development of stretchable TENG for the potential applications including wearable devices and stretchable electronics.
