The semiconductor manufacturing process generates high concentrations of wastewater containing organic pollutants such as toluene and xylene. Membrane treatment is one of the best methods to lessening impurities to desired levels and polymer membrane materials include polyacrylonitrile, polysulfone, and polytetrafluoroethylene. However, the main challenges with these polymers are cost and fouling. In this study, we fabricated a membrane using polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) polymer, which has an inexpensive and antifouling properties to various pollutants. Then, hydrophilic properties were imparted to the membrane through a surface treatment method of dip coating with polyvinyl alcohol (PVA). The fabricated PVA/PVDF membrane provides clean water and separates organic pollutants such as toluene and xylene from wastewater. As a result, PVA/PVDF membrane has excellent antifouling behavior and can be reused multiple times without significantly compromising its capability.
