MFI nanosheet addition on MMM: Investigation of physical and permeation properties

Mixed matrix membranes (MMM) with zeolite fillers have been suggested due to their high potential with mechanical strength, thermal stability, and gas separation performance. However, even with these advantages, zeolite-based MMM still has limitations in performance enhancement. In this research, we have introduced a direct synthesized MFI nanosheet with aggregation-prevented powder in high yield. And fabricated PTMSP-MFI nanosheets MMM with successfully aligned filler by shear-induced alignment. The investigation on fabricated PTMSP-MFI nanosheets MMM represented increased thermal stability and stiffness. The gas separation performance was also enhanced showing increased butane isomer selectivity of 7.2 with 5400 barrer and sustained performance in binary mixture conditions. Moreover, comparing the investigated result and value of the modified Cussler model, we have pointed out improvement points for the fabrication of ideal zeolite-based MMM.
