As the risk of petroleum resources depletion and environmental pollution by microplastics increases, the demand for eco-friendly biodegradable plastics is increasing. However, for these alternative materials to be used in the actual industry, the preconditions that polymer properties must be maintained during the use and biodegradation must proceed in the disposal stage after service must be satisfied. From this point of view, biodegradability tests in a versatile environment after using materials are essential for the certification and prediction of product durability. In this study, we would like to introduce a biodegradation evaluation method for biodegradable polymer materials in various environments. In-depth, we would like to discuss the differences in the degradation behavior of the PBS fiber developed as a biodegradable fishing gear material according to the degradation environment (composting conditions, seawater, seawater-sediment interface).
