A Transparent, Stretchable, Free-Standing Triboelectric Nanogenerator Based on Ionic Conductor

Triboelectric nanogenerator (TENG) harvests electricity from mechanical movements, promising an eco-friendly, next-generation energy solution. Here, we took a step further to the energy-generating ionic skin by proposing a transparent, stretchable, free-standing triboelectric nanogenerator based on ionic conductor. Ionic conductor includes polymeric gelators [poly(methyl methacrylate-ran-butyl acrylate), PMMA-r-PBA] and ionic liquids (IL), and further developed by doping organic solvent propylene carbonate (PC) and lithium ions, enhancing ionic movements inside and electrical double-layer capacitance at interfaces. This energy-generating ionic skin has great stretchability (elongation limit ≈ 850%), good transparency (~90%), and a high output voltage of ~60 V. This work provides novel approaches for soft energy harvesting electronics.
