Flexible zinc-air batteries (FZABs) with high energy density and flexibility for enough power and wearable devices have attracted extensive attention as a next-generation battery candidate in smart-wearable and portable devices. Solid-state gel polymer electrolyte is an essential component for the fabrication of FZABs due to their prevention of leakage, shortage, and corrosion compared to conventional organic liquid electrolytes. Poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA)-KOH gel electrolytes have received much interest owing to their high ionic conductivity, low cost, excellent cycling stability, and high mechanical strength. In this study, we propose a cost-effective PVA-based tough hydrogels with high ionic conductivity and excellent mechanical strength for flexible energy storage devices. In addition, their physicochemical properties such as morphology, porosity, swelling, mechanical strength, and ionic conductivity were evaluated.
