Dye-sensitized Solar Cells Integrated Asymmetric Supercapacitor for Internet of Things under Ambient Light

Photo-powered energy storage devices are appealing substantial research attention because of their possible application in smart electronics. A great number of integrated devices have developed in the last few years, and amongst them, solar cell devices integrated with supercapacitors have exceptional photo conversion and storage properties with auspicious overall efficiency. Herein, dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) integrated asymmetric capacitors are explored to harvest indoor light and stored it as electrical energy. The as-fabricated dye-sensitized photocapacitor (DSPC) shows an outstanding light-to-electrical energy efficiency (ηoverall) of 21.6%, which is higher than that reported ever. Furthermore, the polymer gel electrolyte-based quasi-solid state (QSS) DSPCs show superior cycling capability, indicating the promising applicability of the fabricated QSS DSPC as the wireless power source for IoT devices in ambient light conditions.
