After around 100 years since a polymer was discovered, plastic pollution seriously has emerged. Although there are so many ways to reduce plastic waste like appropriate collection and disposal, recycling and development of a novel polymeric material, etc., recycling is considered one of the simplest and most promising methods. Unfortunately, this is only applicable to thermoplastics, not thermosets having network structures of polymer chains. To enable a thermoset to reprocess, many researchers have introduced dynamic chemistry where a chemical bond undergoes an exchange reaction at a specific condition, unlike covalent bonds. Here, I introduce a route to synthesize a polymer containing dynamic chemistry, disulfide bond, using a natural molecule-Lipoic acid. It allows the synthesized polymer network to be reprocessed, degraded under diverse conditions and 3D printed using a photo-based 3D printing technique.
