Many researches on HVDC cables suitable for renewable energy transmission and power exchange among countries have been actively progressed because DC (Direct Current) has less power loss than AC (Alternating Current) in terms of long distance power transmission. Since power cables are used for decades after underground pulling, its long-term reliability is as important as insulation performance including DC breakdown strength and etc.. In this study, eco-friendly composites were generated by blending polypropylene (PP), thermo plastic elastomer (TPE) and metal surface-modified oxide nanoparticles via a twin-screw extruder. The PP composite was evaluated outstanding DCBD (Direct Current Breakdown Strength) and weatherability as hydrophilic nanoparticles dispersed in the resin partially capture moisture that causes water tree formation.
