DNA origami nanostructures are used as a convenient tool for attaching DNA onto gold nanoparticles. For molecular printing of DNA, we fabricate uniform tetrahedral origami cages with ink DNA in large scale and monodisperse DNA-coated gold nanoparticles of which the size was designed to fit in the cages. Then, the gold nanoparticles are captured into the origami cages and specific single-stranded DNA termed linker DNA is introduced for detaching gold nanoparticles from the tetrahedral origami and forming DNA patches via toehold-mediated strand displacement. This DNA-patch nanoparticle will be used as a unit particle for colloidal superstructures.
