Induced chiroptical properties to achiral DPP-based conjugated polymer by blending chiral small molecules

Chiral activity induction to conjugated polymers has been developing in organic electronics. To induce structural asymmetry, the blending of chiral small molecules and achiral conjugated polymers is one of simple strategy. In this study, diketopyrrolopyrrole(DPP) based polymers with high charge transport property, PDVT-10, is blended with (R)- or (S)-1,1′-Binaphthyl-2,2′-diamine((R)- or (S)-BINAM) and the chiroptical properties are endowed to PDVT-10 depending on the blend ratio in a solution. In thin films, (R)- or (S)-BINAM affects PDVT-10 to generate new peak on circular dichroism, peak shift on UV-Vis spectrometer, and form helical structures on AFM. Furthermore, a phototransistor based on organic field-effect transistor(OFET) has sensitivity to circularly polarized light at 850nm wavelength in near-infrared light. In conclusion, this blending method could be suggested as a simple strategy to achiral conjugated polymer for endowing new chiroptical properties.
