In this study, we present an environmentally friendly synthesis method for colorless polyimide (CPI), a material with outstanding physical and optical characteristics that is widely used in applications such as flexible displays and solar cells. Our approach utilizes a co-solvent of water and alcohol in an organic base, rather than the toxic polar aprotic solvents used in traditional methods. The resulting oligomeric CPI precursor, produced by the co-solvent, is a new oligomeric form rather than the traditional high molecular weight precursors, such as poly(amic acid) and poly(amic acid) salt. This new method for synthesizing polyimide offers the benefit of not requiring precise molecular weight control and having a faster reaction time.
