DNA-mediated colloidal assembly in solution has been extensively investigated since the robust and scalable method of coating high-density DNA brushes was reported. Here we present several strategies for assembling DNA-coated colloidal particles on DNA-coated patterned substrates. First, azide-functionalized polymers are synthesized and formed hexagonally patterned posts with 300-nm in diameter on substrate by capillary force lithography (CFL), which are then coupled with DBCO-DNA by click chemistry or strain-promoted alkyne-azide cycloaddition (SPAAC) reaction. Second, 500-nm DNA-coated colloidal particles successfully are assembled into two-dimensional superstructures on patterned substrate with complementary DNA coatings.
