A bioimaging technique can provide information about disease diagnosis and treatment by providing multidimensional and multiscale views of biological structures and states. Because light must penetrate tissue, it is particularly important to capture and visualize wavelengths in the second near-infrared window (NIR-II). We therefore report on a new molecular fluorescence structure for the NIR-II based on the donor-π bridge-acceptor-π bridge-donor (D-π-A-π-D). For increased bio-permeability, it was designed to absorb in the NIR-I region (750 to 900 nm) and emit in the NIR-II region (1000 to 1700 nm). A relationship was explored between absorption and fluorescence properties.
