Cellulose nanofiber (CNF) has excellent mechanical properties, biodegradability, and biostability. CNF may be used as a composite material capable of improving mechanical properties, but since the CNF is hydrophilic, it is difficult to mix with non-hydrophilic materials. In this study, the surface of CNF is modified and mixed with other polymers, and a new eco-friendly biodegradable film is prepared and analyzed to identify its characteristics. In this research, the surface of CNF was first chemically modified using EDC/NHS to introduce a hydrophobic functional group. It was confirmed that the surface of CNF became hydrophobic after modification through taking a contact angle and dispersing it directly in an organic solvent. The appearance before and after modification were compared through FT-IR, SEM, and EDS. The modified CNF was mixed with biodegradable polymer PLA to prepare a film, and its tensile strength was measured and analyzed.
