Conjugated polyelectrolytes (CPEs) exhibit a mixed conductivity composed of π-conjugated backbone and pendant ionic functionalities. This novel structure allows a self-doping process which the polarons are delocalized through the backbone. These CPEs have a wide range of applications like solar cell and organic electronics.
In this work, we report an organic electrochemical transistor (OECT) system using CPE as an active channel with ionic gel-like electrolyte for doping. Mode switching was achieved between enhancement and depletion mode just by tuning the sign of drain and gate bias. The mechanism was studied and optimized with comparing the product μC* value by varying the thickness of channel which corresponds to ion penetration from electrolyte to channel. Finally for optimization, transconductance (gm) was calculated by measuring the drain current through doping. Our work allows for maximizing doping effect through ion penetration and utilize as a dual mode switching system.
