The interpenetrating network(IPN) hydrogels have been widely investigated as promising materials due to their tissue-like mechanical properties. Inspired by the mussel adhesive mechanism, we designed polyacrylamide(PAAm)-DOPA inspired copolymer with various cations(Ca2+, Fe3+, V5+). The catechol-containing molecules as a crosslinking mediator can physically interact in the hydrogel network through π-π stacking, cation-π interaction, and hydrogen bonding. The prepared IPN-structured hydrogels were evaluated for mechanical properties and characterized. More importantly, the PAAm/DOPA inspired copolymer-based IPN-structured hydrogel showed excellent adhesiveness to various substrates. Moreover, IPN-structured hydrogel had a good cell affinity in vitro. These results suggest that IPN-structured hydrogel may potential application in tissue engineering and bio medical applications.
