Carbon fiber has been widely used as reinforce materials due to its high strength, low density and good electrical and thermal conductivities. Highly oriented molecular structure is essential for high-performance carbon fibers. Graphene sheets merge into the carbon fibers structure during carbonization. We expect that graphene oxide improves mechanical properties of PAN fibers. Electron beam polymerization method does not require an initiator and has the advantage of relatively fast polymerization process time. The structure and properties of polyacrylonitrile containing graphene oxide (PAN-GO) was analyzed by FTIR and SEM. Thermal properties including the initial temperature and efficiency of cyclization reaction were characterized by DSC and TGA.
