Technology for solar water evaporation is getting a lot of interest since it has a great chance to replace conventional desalination systems. Here, a graphite and tin-selenide photothermal material-coated melamine foam skeleton-based monolithic solar evaporator (MSE) with a hierarchical mass transfer layer was presented. MSE is monolithic in design, while G-SnSe creates a bimodal porous structure on top of it to improve mass transmission. A high evaporation rate for the MSE structure was made possible by reinforced capillarity at the small-scale pores in the bimodal structure. Large-scale pores in the bimodal structures would further help the MSE surface's autonomous rejection of salts during solar desalination. We predict the next generation of solar evaporation and desalination devices will have a complex structure.
