The rubbing method, which induces anisotropy on the surface of the alignment layer by direct friction, the occurrence of dust and static electricity caused by friction acts as a cause of increasing the defect rate. In particular, there are many difficulties in realizing excellent alignment uniformity with an existing rubbing methods on flexible substrates. In order to overcome the limitations of the rubbing method, many studies on the photoalignment method, which is a non-contact alignment methods, are being conducted. In the previous study, to improve thermal resistance, thermal stability, and liquid crystal alignment ratio, a photoalignment material containing a chalcone-based derivative was synthesized. In addition, the Pulse LPUV process and the Hg UV curing process were used. However, In this study, the high-quality optical retarder film to the process using the Pulse UV rather than the existing Hg UV for curing negative dispersion reactive liquid crystals was prepared and evaluated.
