VMQ, which is a rubber based on silicon, has excellent oil resistance. However, due to its high unit price, it is needed to produce an appropriate blend to utilize its costs and mechanical properties. In this study, EPDM, a common material based on ethylene-propylene diene monomer, were exploited to fabricate rubber blends. As the EPDM content increases the tensile strength decreases. Elongation decreases for the small contents of EPDM, however, and it becomes increase as the contents of EPDM increase. To overcome the problem, fumed silica particles were introduced to improve the compatibility of blends. Through scanning electron microscopy, it was confirmed that as the fumed silica improves the interfacial morphology between EPDM and VMQ improving the compatibility of rubber blends. As a result, fumed silica supplemented for the deterioration of physical properties in the EPDM/VMQ blend, preventing drop the physical properties.
