Light actuated shape memory polymer (SMP) was fabricated by melt blending of poly(ε-caprolactone (PCL), natural rubber (NR) and lignin in an internal mixer with dicumyl peroxide (DCP) as a crosslinking agent. Lignin acted as reinforcing filler as well as a photothermal agents in the blends, and the semicrystalline PCL phase serves as the thermal switch and cross-linked rubber phase offers strong resilience. These structural features endow the blends to exhibit shape memory effects under heating or near infrared irradiation. And, the peroxide-induced dynamic vulcanization led to the dispersion of crosslinked rubber phase in continuous PCL phase, which render the blends exhibit melt processability.
