Metal halide perovskite materials are considered as promising semiconducting materials for next-generation solar cells due to their unique electrical and optical properties. However, due to the rapid crystal growth of perovskite, a variety of defects can form as a result of the precursor compositions and processing conditions. The use of additives can affect perovskite crystallization and film formation, defect passivation at the surface, as well as influence the interface tuning of structure and energetics. Here, we describe the synthesis of DTBT monomers with either 0, 1 or 2 cyano groups on the BT unit and their corresponding with the electron rich donor benzodithiophene(BDT). The presence of cyano group as lewis base has a great effect on the defects in perovskite films and improves the device performances.
