Environmental issues have recently emphasized the importance of fuel efficiency of truck bus radial (TBR) tire treads that undergo high loads and long driving times. Accordingly, research was conducted on using liquid butadiene rubber (LqBR) as processing aids to produce high-performance TBR tires. In particular, functionalized LqBR has advantage of increasing fuel efficiency by removing free chain ends. Here, we report an amino-functionalized LqBR (amino-LqBR), a new type of processing aid in TBR tire treads. Amino-LqBR can decrease hysteresis loss caused by the free chain ends of Non-functionalized LqBR. In addition, it increases carbon black dispersion in the rubber matrix by forming a chemical bond between the carbon black surface and the base rubber. Amino-LqBR was synthesized using bis(4-aminophenyl) disulfide (BAPD) to introduce functional groups into both chain ends. Carbon black-filled rubber compound with the LqBR showed higher performance than commercial processing aids.
